Waterschap Limburg Deploys Geodesign E51 Elemental to Protect Apartment Complex ‘Dennemarkenhof’

Roermond, Netherlands - In a swift response to recent heavy rainfall, Waterschap Limburg has constructed an emergency dike near Roermond, utilizing the versatile E51 Elemental barrier from Geodesign Barriers. This action underscores the urgency and effectiveness of the region's flood mitigation strategies, which are crucial in protecting local communities, particularly the residential complex ‘Dennemarkenhof’, from potential water damage.

The decision to deploy the E51 Elemental barrier came after intense rainfall caused water levels in the local watersystem, streams and ponds to rise sharply, threatening to overflow and inundate the area. Waterschap Limburg responded promptly by constructing a emergency dike, a 150 meters long mobile flood barrier, using the Geodesign Barriers E51 Elemental, which is designed to withstand water levels up to 51 cm. This rapid deployment was critical in preventing water from flowing towards the apartment complex.

Apartment Complex ‘Dennemarkenhof’, situated near ponds intended to buffer rainwater, has been a focal point of these efforts. Residents Peter Seegers and Henny Verhagen shared their experiences during the recent flooding. "I think it is now a meter higher than normal. At this time of year, in May, it is often a higher period and then it is almost dry here on the side. Now it is at least one meter," said Seegers. Verhagen added, "This morning when I got up it was quite a shock. We immediately cleared the basement as fast as possible. In 2016, we had 1.80 meters of water in the basement." (Waterschap Limburg) (SABC News).

The deployment of Geodesign's E51 barriers is part of a broader initiative by Waterschap Limburg to enhance flood defenses across the region. This initiative follows a three-year contract awarded to Geodesign Barriers, which has supplied the water authority with mobile flood barriers designed to handle various water levels and environmental conditions. The E51Elemental barriers, known for their durability and efficiency, played a vital role in the recent emergency response.

Waterschap Limburg has been proactive in preparing for such events, especially after the severe floods of 2021. The collaboration with Geodesign Barriers was established to ensure that the region has access to reliable and effective flood protection solutions. This partnership has proven essential in recent days as emergency teams worked tirelessly to protect Roermond and other vulnerable areas from flooding (Waterschap Limburg) (SABC News).
