On 16 February 2020, Catteshall Bridge became the stage for showcasing the capabilities of the 7.8m long Geodesign temporary flood barrier. This deployment was a pivotal component of the Godalming Flood Alleviation Scheme, which was officially unveiled by Jeremy Hunt MP and the Chair of the Environment Agency, Emma Howard-Boyd.
The scheme's comprehensive approach includes a 525m permanent flood wall designed to reduce the threat of flooding from the river Wey. This protective measure has been instrumental in ensuring the safety of 90 properties in the Meadrow and Catteshall areas. Moreover, the integration of two pumping stations, with a combined output of 84 liters per second, underscores the robustness of the scheme.

The Geodesign Heavy Duty C122 Flood Barrier plays a significant role when required, closing the gap in the permanent scheme across the Catteshall road bridge. This barrier stands out due to its user-friendly features. It comes with 'snap-on' locking mechanisms tailored for its horizontal connection rods, aluminium sheets, and security rod in the bottom beam of the support structure. Such features simplify the deployment process, saving teams both time and effort.
Ensuring a perfect fit, the barrier uses two wall attachments to seamlessly span from one side of the road to the other. The challenges posed by pavement kerbs, present no problem for the Geodesign flood barrier due to its innovative design: adjustable sections make it easy to provide effective and flexible flood protection in spite of urban terrain and various obstacles.
