Welcome to Geodesign Barriers Ltd - where Swedish engineering meets global innovation. We are creating the strongest and most flexible mobile flood barriers available. With over 2 decades of experience - we pride ourselves on using high-quality steel when manufacturing your robust flood defences in the United Kingdom, and beyond.
Geodesign supplies mobile flood defence barriers as a reliable and versatile solution to protect against sudden and rising flood waters. Our barriers are engineered using best-in-class, high-strength steel backed by state-of-the-art Swedish engineering.
As a leader in climate defence for many a residential and commercial property (more than 25 years) Geodesign Barriers is a recognised provider of innovation and excellence in flood protection. Early on, the team received the prestigious "Genève Grand Prix for Best Innovation of the Year". And, certified by the quality certificate FM Approval, you can trust your Geodesign Barriers to provide secure flood protection because regulatory organisations and customers already do.
Introducing the Geodesign Flood Barriers series - a wide range of barriers specifically designed to tackle various flooding scenarios, that are quick to deploy. Our three product ranges are all based on the same engineering principle but vary in dam heights and technical design, giving you the flexibility to protect your property from floodwater on your terms. None of our flood barrier systems require tools for installation, making them extremely easy and quick to deploy in emergencies.
Geodesign flood barriers are versatile solutions designed to contain water in challenging conditions. With their impenetrable steel structure and innovative design, these flood-stop barriers are ideal for both large-scale flood defences and cofferdam applications. This also makes them more reliable than aluminium flood barriers.
”The defences we have chosen are the most versatile on the market, which is precisely what we need in Osney, and they have already been proven successful in other parts of the country.”
- Rob Alexander, Flood Risk Manager @ Environment Agency, UK
"We are very happy with the levee. The only reason there isn’t floodwater throughout the city is the levee stopping the water. We are very very relieved.”
- George Seymore, Mayor of Fraser Coast, AUS

Temporary barriers are manufactured to create an effective defence of flood walls against floodwaters. For optimal effectiveness, they must be deployed following the manufacturers' guidelines. The weight of the water itself helps to anchor the barrier, with additional stability provided by friction against the ground.
In addition to the robust barrier, pumps are employed to manage water levels, and a seal is applied to ground inlets or drains to prevent leakage. The plastic membrane is extended towards the water to slow underground water movement. While the permeability of the ground can affect dryness behind the barrier, these systems are designed to withstand significant water pressure and control water flow, thereby mitigating flood impact.
They can play a vital role in flood management by holding back or diverting floodwaters from vulnerable areas, including buildings and key assets. They are particularly useful in scenarios where permanent or demountable defences are impractical or disruptive, such as in scenic riverside locations where a permanent wall would negatively impact the view or accessibility.
These barriers are also a cost-effective interim solution in areas awaiting long-term flood alleviation schemes. Designed with metal frames and replaceable plastic membranes, they offer low life-cycle costs due to their reusability which will suit environmentally conscious consumers.
Geodesign Barriers are temporary, mobile flood barriers that can be rapidly deployed without tools whenever and wherever needed. Their core structure consists of interconnected A-frames made of extra strong, galvanized steel with aluminum panels, enabling them to withstand extremely tough conditions. The angled frames utilize the downward water pressure to self-anchor the barrier, and the design also relies on ground friction, typically eliminating the need for additional fixings. Once the Geodesign plastic membrane is in place, any leakage behind the barrier is pumped back, and it's essential to block any drains, manholes, or cavities to prevent surcharging.
These barriers serve two primary functions:
1. Flood Containment: They can surround communities and infrastructure to hold back floodwaters.
2. Flood Diversion: They can divert water away from vulnerable areas, redirecting it to fields or similar areas.

In essence, Geodesign flood barriers are versatile, robust, and an integral component of effective flood management and emergency response strategies.
